Shiann Salmon of Jamaica finished semi-finals Heat Three of the women’s 400 metres third and failed to advance to the final at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday.

Salmon ran a slow 300 metres to be well behind going into the home stretch but produced a burst of energy to move past a few of her rivals. However, she could not catch Sydney McLaughlin of the United States of America, who won ahead of Lea Sprunger of Switzerland.

McLaughlin and Sprunger claimed the two automatic spots from the heat to advance to the final, as they clocked 53.81 and 54.52 respectively, with Salmon doing 55.16, a personal best.
