Excelsior beat Dinthill on penalties to move on in Champions Cup

Excelsior advanced to the next phase of the Champions Cup schoolboy football competition Friday evening after they defeated Dinthill 4-3 in sudden death penalty at the National Stadium.

Both failed to find the back of the net during the regulation 90 minutes with the stipulated five first penalties also ending with a tie, as both Excelsior and Dinthill scored three kicks.

Ty Wedderburn missed the first kick in sudden death, which Alex Alexander responded to by beating goalkeeper Demero Hill to give Excelsior the victory.

Excelsior, although failing to play attractive football, had the advantage in the first half and got two glorious opportunities to take the lead in the first 15 minutes, but were denied by Hill’s brilliant goalkeeping.

Dinthill, went closest to scoring, however, when they hit the crossbar close to the end of the half.

Dinthill had an improved second half, although they failed to create many clear scoring chances.
