FALSE ALARM? Health Minister says there is no known case of coronavirus in Jamaica

Dr Christopher Tufton

Minister of Health, Dr Christopher Tufton, has said that there are no known cases of the coronavirus in Jamaica.

He made the disclosure at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. His declaration was backed up by Dr Carl Bruce from the University Hospital of the West Indies.

The press conference was called on the heels of news that a section of the hospital was under lockdown after a patient presented with flu-like symptoms.

Dr Bruce said that the patient was screened, especially because the patient was in China, where there is an outbreak of the deadly virus.

Tufton said he intends to give a full statement in Parliament as to the measure the government intends to take to protect Jamaicans against the virus.
