Founder of label that gave the world top dancehall acts receives national honour

Patrick Roberts, CEO and founder of the Shocking Vibes label was on Monday (Oct 21) awarded for his contribution to community development, sports and music.

He was all smiles as the Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen pinned the Order of Distinction medal on his lapel at the National Honours and Awards ceremony at King’s House in St Andrew.

Roberts, who is also a councillor in the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, said he felt proud to have been honoured by his country.

Roberts has been a music producer for 30 years.

Shocking Vibes grew out of the inner city community of Craig Town/Jones Town in Kingston to become a major reggae music label worldwide, featuring acts like Beenie Man, Lady Saw, Tiger, Cobra, Tanto Metro and Devonte.
