JOKER is the highest-grossing comic book, R-rated movie of all time

Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck in JOKER

DC is doing a lot right in 2019, as JOKER officially became the highest-grossing comic book film of all time – more profitable than arch-nemesis Batman, as well as Marvel hits Deadpool and Venom.

The film also broke another record, becoming the most successful R-rated movie in the history of box office counters.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, JOKER is the seventh biggest film this year in terms of worldwide gross, with foreign viewers accounting for just over 68 per cent of its success.

Give this man an Oscar already!

Having amassed a staggering worldwide gross of US$984 million, JOKER is poised to become the cheapest film, production-wise, to hit the $1 billion mark since 1993’s Jurassic Park.

As of Friday (Nov. 8), the Joaquin Phoenix-starred film, set in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), will be the most profitable comic book movie of all time – without much help from China.

JOKER broke its first record right out the blocks, with an impressive US$94 million domestic October opening, the best debut for the entire month.
