Not quite yet: Andrew Holness addresses election speculation

Prime Minister, Andrew Holness

The next general election is constitutionally due in 2021, but with the Opposition People’s National Party already on the road campaigning, many have speculating that an election might be called this year.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, however seem to be in no hurry to call an election. He said his administration is currently focused on maintaining the current economic stability enjoyed by the country.

At a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Area Council Three meeting in Palmers Cross, Clarendon on Sunday Prime Minister Holness said, “I hear a whole heap of people talking about election as if they will be calling it… I see (the PNP) already gone to the starting line ready to take off,” he said.

“At this present point in time, it is in the nation’s interest to maintain the present stability that exist. We don’t want to disturb those things, we worked too hard to get here,” he said.
