Shaggy was among the cast of actors that got the chance to show their stuff on ABC’s live adaptation of the Little Mermaid.

Mr Boombastic decked out in red, reminiscent of Sebastian in the 1989 classic, minus the claws, had the crowd loving his rendition of “Under the Sea” as part of the two-hour event. Shaggy also turned on the charm for his performance of “Kiss The Girl”.

His costars also received rave reviews for their performances in the musical in particular Queen Latifah, who plays Ursula the sea witch with her rendition of “Poor Unfortunate Souls”.

However, while the individual performances were good, the overall production has been lambasted as of very poor quality. The character of Flounder, Princess Ariel’s best friend was reduced to a mere puppet which drew the consternation of its viewers.

Also, viewers had harsh criticisms for Shaggy’s crab costume which they considered unfinished as it had no claws and didn’t do justice to Sebastian.

However, Robert Mills, the SVP of Alternative Series, Specials & Late-Night Programming at ABC sought to clarify it in a Twitter post.

He wrote, “For those wondering, Shaggy wore crab claws in early rehearsals and it looked ridiculous.”

He later tweeted a photo of Shaggy in the original crab costume with “ridiculous” claws.
