Trade unions, on Tuesday, reached an agreement with the management of JISCO/Alpart on behalf of the workers over the impending job cuts.

In the deal, 300 workers will be rehired for the upgrading of the plant from the 800 that will be cut. JISCO will close the facility to modernise the equipment and operations.

It is understood that all the workers will get the option to return to Alpart after the upgrade. They will also get three weeks of redundancy payment, instead of the two weeks that was initially offered by JISCO.
