Someone had US$2.9 million to spare and spent it on a tweet.
The tweet said, “just setting up my twttr,” was published on March 21, 2006 by Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey. It has been shared more than 120,000 times and liked more than 160,000 times.
It was sold as an NFT, a digital collector’s item. An NFT is a unique digital token which essentially verifies authenticity and ownership. The tweet was purchased by Sina Estavi, the CEO of Malaysian blockchain service Bridge Oracle.
He took to Twitter to express his joy at the purchase.
“This is not just a tweet! I think years later people will realize the true value of this tweet, like the Mona Lisa painting,” Estavi tweeted Monday.
Maybe one day, his tweet will also be something of value.
