The Milwaukee Bucks can breathe a sigh of relief after news that its star player Giannis Antetokounmpo will remain with the team.
Antetokounmpo revealed on his social media today, December 15, that he will stay with the team for at least another five years.
Despite confirming his stay, no details on his contract were revealed although some speculate it could be for as much as US$228 million over the period, with an opt-out clause for 2025.
The two-time MVP award winner had until yesterday to sign the Bucks’ extension offer.
The 26-year-old said Milwaukee is his home, adding “Let’s make these years count. The show goes on, let’s get it.”
The Bucks have enjoyed success in season but have not made it to a final with Antetokounmpo, who will face increasing pressure to deliver another title to the team that has only claimed the top prize once, way back in 1975.
