Houston Rockets star James Harden has been slapped with a US$50,000 fine for violating health and safety protocols.

The guard was fined after he attended a private indoor party on Monday, contravening NBA rules that prohibit indoor social gatherings of 15 or more people and entering bars, lounges, clubs and similar establishments.

The game between the Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder was also postponed in keeping with the league’s protocols following three Rockets players returning positive or inclusive coronavirus test results. Four other players have been quarantined after contact tracing.

The new NBA season, which will not be playing in a bubble as it did last season, was only in its second day.
