It’s back: Three must watch flicks at Kingston’s drive-in cinema

Movie lovers in the Kingston area are in for a treat as Palace Amusement Company reopened its New Kingston Drive-in cinema on Monday (June 7).

The company was swift to seize the opportunity following Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ recent announcement of the 9 pm weekday curfew.

The below are three films with the BUZZ seal of approval that are slated to be showcased at the drive-in theatre

A Quiet Place II

A Quiet Place II is the long-awaited sequel to the 2018 Sci-Fi, Horror smash hit, A Quiet Place. Both films follow a family fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world, where most of humanity has been destroyed by blind and violent aliens that possess acute hearing.

Both movies are written and directed by now-acclaimed actor, screenwriter, and director, John Krasinski.

Godzilla vs King Kong

This film has the American public very divided, as movie lovers root for their preferred monster to win the epic showdown.

Now, it’s for Jamaicans to weigh-in, are we Godzilla lovers or King Kong fans?

The movie follows King Kong along his perilous journey to find his true home, all the while forming powerful bonds with his human comrades, principal among them an orphan girl named Jia. In the midst of his journey home , King Kong finds himself in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe. Godzilla vs King Kong features Milly Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Alexander Skarsgard, and Rebbecca Hall.

Mortal Kombat 2021

The latest effort to bring Mortal Kombat to the big screen has been a notable success.

This reboot follows a washed-up MMA fighter named “Cole” who must join forces with earth’s greatest champions in helping to fend off their adversaries and duke it out for ownership of the universe.

Upon the announcement of their reopening, Palace Amusement received a surplus of support from fans on Twitter.

“It’s safer to go to a movie theatre than to take the bus!!! I feel it for Palace Amusement. I pray the company doesn’t fold,” tweeted one user.

Other users, while also worried for the company’s future, are simply happy to once again indulge in the movie-going experience.

“I look forward to the reopening. Along with a brighter, sharper screen and please remember the jerk chicken…so good,” said one user on Twitter.

“Meeda drive guh up deh just for the experience,” added another.
