Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ breaks Spotify single-day streaming record

Mariah Carey broke Spotify’s record for the most streams in a day with All I Want For Christmas.

Mariah Carey is now the holder of Spotify’s record for most streams of one song in a single day.

It makes sense the ‘Queen of Christmas’ would break the record in her season, racking up 17.223 million streams on Christmas Eve.

Carey reacted to the accomplishment which she found out in a tweet from Chart Data. Thanking her fans yesterday, Mimi said “I know people think I’m making “coin” (lil secret: artists make very little from streams) but the real reason I’m sitting here in astonishment & gratitude is seeing the joy this little song I wrote brings to people. THANK YOU & MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!””

The song was released in 1994 as part of Carey’s Merry Christmas album. Since then, it has gone on to become one of the most popular carols ever, reaching the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time last year, and again this year, decades after its release.

It’s been reported that the singer has made about US$60 million from the popular track.
