Mavado’s son takes conviction to the Court of Appeal

Dante Brooks, the teenage son of dancehall artiste, Mavado will be seeking to have his murder conviction overturned when his lawyers take his case to the court of appeal.

Brooks and his co-accused 23-year-old Andre Hinds were sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2018 murder of Lorenzo Thomas.

One of his lawyers, Kemar Robinson, told the Jamaica Observer, that his client is maintaining his innocence.

“In this case we couldn’t appeal [both sentence and conviction] because the sentence is reasonable, so there is no basis on which to do so. But if the appeal against the conviction is successful, then the sentence falls as well,” Robinson said.

“We are of the view that the evidence does not support the conviction…there are a lot of issues in the case that we think were unresolved, a number of things,” he added.
