In our hyper-connected, information-laden, notifications-driven, social media space, Facebook has seen the need to create another social media app to keep us connected.
Facebook imagines a more tightly woven network through its new app – Threads from Instagram.

Threads is available for Instagram users, who can now share their status or quickly send photos to persons listed as their close friends in the native Instagram app.

Facebook shared in a blog post that the camera-centric app is designed “For your smaller circle of friends”. It went on to add that, “We saw the need to stay more connected throughout the day, so you can communicate what you’re doing and how you’re feeling through photos and videos.”

Another jab at Snapchat maybe? That’s how many have viewed Threads since its launch on October 3, given the app’s eerily similar function to Snap’s sharing of photos and videos through private messages.
Threads is available on both iOS and Android devices with over 100,000 downloads in the Google Play store so far.
