Dancehall singjay Dexta Daps was plunged into a sea of tears upon the recent passing of Constance Christie, mother of dancehall legend Shabba Ranks. The artiste was close to speechless in a post made two days ago about the news, but has returned to social media to update fans on his well-being.
“I AIN 💯 NOW BUT I’M ALIVE…GIVE JAH THNX… LOST A MOM BUT GAINED AN ANGEL OVER ME… BLESS UP TO MY FANS N SUPPORTERS THAT R ALWAYS THERE…”
Hours prior, he had offered some insight into why Christie, affectionately remembered as Mama C, meant so much to him.
“Still can’t find it to say I miss u cause I still can’t imagine u gone… World condolences goes out to u mama…”– Dexta Daps
“She was 1 of my 1st inspirations,” he said. “As a yute growing up, ppl from my community, including myself, got to witness a different kind of courtesy… Mama C TEK CARE A YUH N NUH KNOW YUH PARENT… I used to sneak to her house for a hot cup of soup even tho Mum P didn’t like me taking things from any1…Being a part of the less fortunate, I didn’t know what owning a toy was like till she handed me a ‘draw back car’ smh… years after this,, she still calls me to her home just to share encouraging words and pray for me… she was a full blown Christian…”
Christie takes centrestage in his 2017 music video for the single Shabba Madda Pot. Daps recalled asking the revered Seaview Gardens resident to appear in the video.
“When I asked her to be in my video, she said she would ask God b4 I could get an answer… She told me it was her 1st ever music video n she doesn’t normally do things like that but this is special…”
He continued, “I still can’t imagine not seeing her n squeezing her n laughing n reasoning… Still can’t find it to say I miss u cause I still can’t imagine u gone… World condolences goes out to u mama… World Madda…. Wull it Shabba Wull It Buju Wull it Ryan n the whole family…”
The post has attracted condolences from several fans and members of the entertainment fraternity.
