Dolly Parton has finally received the first shot of the Moderna vaccine for which she donated US$1 million to help develop.

The country singer received the jab yesterday but first had to reach out to fans to encourage them to get vaccinated in a way only she could. The Jolene singer remixed the song, which she posted to social media, with the lyrics “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I’m begging of you please don’t hesitate,” to boost confidence in the inoculation process.

Following the shot, Parton said, “That didn’t hurt. Just stung a little bit.”

Parton, 74, donated US$1 million to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee for coronavirus research which led to the development of the Moderna vaccine, the second to be authorised in the US last December.
