Recently, we spoke about how to maintain curly hair using the right products. In order to treat, maintain and care for our hair, we need to know what our hair porosity is. Once that is covered, we are already on the way to a healthy hair journey.
For whatever reason, your hair might be damaged. But that is not the end of the world. Let BUZZ help you repair your damaged hair with these simple steps.
USE A SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER, AND HAIR MASK FOR DAMAGED HAIR
If you have damaged hair, look for a hair care system consisting of a shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask that fits your hair porosity. ALWAYS comb your hair before shampooing. Add some detangler and invite the wide-tooth over to work your way through the knots from ends to roots. Massage the shampoo on to wet hair, then rinse. Follow up by applying the conditioner and leaving it on for one to three minutes before rinsing again. Use the hair mask once or twice a week after shampooing. Leave it on for three to five minutes, then rinse out.
WASH YOUR HAIR WITH LUKEWARM WATER
As females, we just love a hot steamy shower, but all that heat can further damage your hair, especially if you already have damaged hair. Super-hot water can strip your hair of essential oils, which can make it feel even drier. So, turn the dial down and rinse your hair off in lukewarm water the next time you shower. Shampoo with lukewarm water and then condition with cold water to lock in the moisture.
USE A DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENT
If you’re not already using a deep conditioner in your regular weekly hair care routine, sis, you need to start asap! Deep conditioning treatments work to repair strands from the inside out, making them stronger in the long run. You can use either deep conditioner after you shampoo in place of your conditioner. These deep conditioners can be used daily.
AVOID HEAT: BLOT HAIR DRY WITH A T-SHIRT — NOT A TOWEL
Allow hair to air dry. Cotton tees can be gentler on your strands, a T-shirt is generally better to use rather than a towel that frizzes hair.
APPLY HAIR PRODUCTS AND OILS
Use products to help enhance your hair’s natural shape. Apply a generous amount of products to clean, damp hair, evenly distributing it from roots to ends. Scrunch your hair, and you’re good to go.
DON’T FORGET TO CLIP YOUR HAIR ENDS
It’s best to visit your local hair salon to clip your hair ends every four to six weeks. Clipping will prevent split ends, which lessens further damage to the hair. Clipping your hair also helps your hair to grow longer.
P.S. BRUSH LIGHTLY
Remember grandma would say the more you brush your hair the softer or longer it gets? Yeah, it’s not true at all. It will actually make your hair more damaged in the long run. While your hair definitely does need brushing, it doesn’t need that much brushing! Just a few very gentle strokes will do.
