The book has sold 3.3 million copies in the United States and Canada and will likely become the best-selling presidential memoir ever.

The book is within striking distance of releases by Bill Clinton’s My Life and George W. Bush’s Decision Points, which have sold between 3.5 and four million copies each.

A Promised Land is the first of two volumes by the two-term president and publisher Crown. No release date has been shared for the follow-up.

Obama’s wife, Michelle, has sold over eight million copies of her 2018 book, Becoming, in North America.
