When he started with Sandals ten and a half years ago, Reid Tingle was uncertain where his journey would take him, but he knew it would be a great adventure. Reid started as a sanitation supervisor at the then Sandals Dunn’s River in 2008, he then quickly transitioned to the food and beverage department as a cook through the on the job training courses offered by the group.
His transition in the various stages (cook 3, cook 2, and cook 1) took a lot of hard work and dedication but Reid was passionate about his career and did the necessary work to achieve his goal.
Currently a Chef de partie (supervisor in charge of dinner), Reid aspires to become a sous chef in two years. “I know I can reach my goal, all I need to do is continue to work hard and I will get there. I have gotten a lot of opportunities through this company and for that, I am very grateful. I have learned so much just being on the job daily, I don’t think I would have gotten all this anywhere else.”

The cross-training programme offered through the Sandals Corporate University (SCU) provides team members with the opportunity to explore other fields of the hotel industry through flexible on the job training. “The cross-training programme has really helped me to get to where I am today,” he continued.
Reid has not only benefited from the on the job training opportunities but has also ascertained certification from the New England Culinary Institute. He has also won several awards during his time with the company, including; Pacesetter of the Year for 2018 and Diamond Team Member of the month.
