SHOWROOM FRESH: 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0

The classic shape of the Porsche 718 Cayman remains with the GTS 4.0 model, just with a few special touches to mark it visually above its peers.

As ATL Motorsports, local dealers for the Porsche brand, launched one of their hottest models yet — the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 — it’s time to get your Christmas Wishlist in order.

Of course Buzz Caribbean is right here to give you a first look at this automotive stocking stuffer.

The Boxster and its closed roof twin, the Cayman, have long been called the cars that saved the brand during its difficult financial history 25 years ago. Since then, the smaller, younger brother to the iconic 911 caught the attention of the wider public instantly. From 1996 to 2003 it was Porsche’s best-selling model. Since then it has evolved, from having a naturally aspirated flat-six cylinder engine, to a turbocharged four-cylinder motor.

What makes the GTS 4.0 special is that it is a return to that glorious sense of natural aspiration.

This is the angle most people will see of the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 due the acceleration from its 400 horsepower mid-mounted 4-litre naturally aspirated flat-six cylinder engine.

“It’s no secret that the true beauty of every Porsche is the incredible blend of sports car performance and everyday usability,” said David Henriques, Head of Business — Porsche Jamaica. “The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 has several additions that are sure to entice all sports car fans, the return of the flat-six engine is chief among these.”

The headline is that the only mid-engined production Porsche now uses a 4-litre flat-six cylinder putting out 400 horsepower. That is 50 horsepower more than the highest performing turbocharged four-cylinder motor available to the regular 718s. To go along with the new engine is a sports exhaust from the even more motorsports focused Cayman GT4 model. It can be had with their Porsche’s PDK transmission or a six-speed gearbox.

The performance figures speak for themselves as 0 to 100kph can be dispatched in 4.5 seconds, while top speed is 293km/h. At 200km/h drivers can enjoy the robotic raising of the rear spoiler in their rear view mirror.

“It’s racier and more powerful than other four-cylinder 718 models and arguably rides better than all of them,” Henriques continued.

And, if the engine alone didn’t make the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 special enough, it gets several key updates to further set it apart. Outside, there’s a different lower front bumper and the side intakes follow the black theme normal for Porsches wearing the GTS badge. Interior pieces are wrapped liberally with Alcantara for that sports car feel. Contrast elements like the instrument cluster and the seat belts can be had in one of two colours; Carmine Red or Crayon. Whatever the personal choice, the inside of the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is a comfortable and luxurious space to be.

Inside the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is just a distinctive as its engine, with sporty Alcantara everywhere and the ability to choose from several trim colours.

“This generation of the 718 Cayman goes far beyond what is expected of any road car. It’s designed to make you fall in love with driving in every way.”

With that said, let’s hope you all were good enough this year for Santa to deliver this as your gift this Yuletide season.
