Woman discovers a billion dollars in her account, tries to return it

Julia Yonkowski from Florida thought she had just $20 in her bank account
Julia Yonkowski, temporary billionaire

Julia Yonkowski from Largo, west of Tampa in Florida was having what we would imagine to be a normal day when she went to the local ATM to withdraw $20 from her account.

But then her day became pretty extraordinary when she realized that she’s now a billionaire. Yes, you read that right. After withdrawing her little old $20, Yonkowski discovered that she had a balance of  $999,985,855.94 in her checking account!

But guess what? She didn’t want it. The very honest woman reached out to her bank to enquire about how to return it.

“Oh my God, I was horrified. I know most people would think they won the lottery but I was horrified,” she told WFLA

“When I put in for the $20, the machine came back and said we’ll give you the $20 but that’ll cause an overdraft and you will be charged and I said, “Oh just forget it,”‘ she said.

“I know I’ve read stories about people that took the money or took out money, and then they had to repay it and I wouldn’t do that anyway because it’s not my money,” added.

But as it turns out, she won’t have to worry about that because according to The New York Post, what Yonkowski thought was a balance was actually a negative in that amount that the bank posted “to draw her attention to an issue with her account.”

“Our local branch and customer service group spoke to Mrs. Yonkowski yesterday to clarify the discrepancy,” the rep told outlet.
