18 companies awarded at JMEA gala

Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen hands the Governor-General’s Award for Exporter of The Year to J Wray and Nephew Ltd.

The Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA) kicked off Manufacturers Month in fine style with the second staging of the JMEA Manufacturers & Exporters (M&E) Awards Gala in partnership with title sponsor the Jamaica National Group.

Over 500 guests were in attendance at the event staged at the main ballroom of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.

The ceremony unveiled the top Jamaican companies who won awards in recognition of their outstanding performance in manufacturing and export throughout the year 2018.

Govenor General’s Award for Manufacturer of The Year went to Wisynco Group Limited.

A total of 18 companies walked away with the prestigious awards. Two new categories were introduced in this year’s staging, the JN Legacy Award which was won by Seprod and Best New Packaging Award which was won by The Best Dressed Chicken. Other top awardees included Red Stripe who took home Awards in three categories: Corporate Social Responsibility, Productivity and Competitiveness and Top Large Manufacturing Exporter. J Wray and Nephew walked away with the Governor-General Exporter of the Year Award while Wisynco Group Ltd coped the Manufacturer of the Year Award. Other awardees included Morgan’s Creek for New Manufacturer of the Year, Shavout International Holdings for New Exporter of the Year.

This year was noted as one of the most competitive year’s in the awards staging as a total of thirty-three nominees were shortlisted.

Seprod Limited walked away with the Jamaica National Legacy Award.

The Gala was well attended by state officials, heads of agencies, members of the private and public sector. The night culminated with the drawing of gate prizes from Boss Furniture, Caribbean Airlines and S Hotel Jamaica.
