Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz will bow into action against Cuba in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) women’s Olympic Games qualifiers at the National Stadium Monday evening (Sept 30) at 6:30 pm.
The Group B encounter will follow the opening act between Barbados and St Lucia at 4:00 pm with the other participants, the United States Virgin Island being idle.
The Reggae Girlz are expected to get the better of their opponents in this stage of the contest, with only the winners of the three groups advancing to the CONCACAF phase, which will have the United States of America, Canada and Mexico joining the other qualifiers from the Caribbean and Central America hunting spots to the Olympic Games next year.
Group A of the CFU round has six competitors, which are Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Dominican Republic, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda and Aruba, while Group C consists of Haiti, Puerto Rico, Suriname, Dominica and Grenada.
This will be the first time the Reggae Girlz will be seeking to qualify for a major tournament since playing in the Women’s World Cup in France during the summer.
