With US$110 billion, Bill Gates, Microsoft’s co-founder, is again the richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a daily ranking of the world’s richest people.
He takes over from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who has US$108 billion. This is the first time since Gates has held the position in the past two years.
His increase in wealth is said to have come due to an increase in stock prices because of a lucrative partnership with the Pentagon involving cloud computing services. Amazon was on the losing end of that bidding process.
It was Bezos who unseated Gates as the world’s richest person in 2018, but due to a divorce and other factors, Bezos’ wealth has move from a high of US$160 billion to its current figure.
The top five is closed out by Bernard Arnault with US$103 billion, Warren Buffet with US$86 billion and Mark Zuckerberg with US$74.5 billion.
