Body found believed to be J’can ‘hero’ who tried to save father, son from drowning

Police in Florida say they are pretty confident that a body recovered from waters off Apollo Beach on Monday (June 14)  is that of 27-year-old Kristoff Murray .

Murray, who is originally from St Mary Jamaica, is being hailed a ‘hero’ after he ventured into the waters at the beach in an attempt to save a father son pair from a rip current last Friday.

While search and rescue teams shortly after the incident, recovered the body of the father son pair, they did not recover Murray’s body.

However, after a four-day search, Hillsborough County Sheriff, Chad Chronister, held at a press conference where he said he felt confident that the body discovered on Monday was that of Murray.

During the press conference Chronister addressed Murray’s family,  wishing them peace, comfort and closure despite the horrible tragedy that took Kristoff’s life.

“Your husband, your brother – his actions were nothing less than heroic,” Chronister said.

“He risked and ultimately gave his life for two complete strangers who were in need,” he added.

The county medical examiner’s office is expected to officially identify the body shortly.
