The first round of the Champions Cup schoolboy football competition concludes on Saturday, with six matches at three venues that will have the clash between defending champions Cornwall College against Charlie Smith promising to the most exciting and competitive.
It will be the second of a doubleheader at Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Monday Bay at 6:30 p.m., with St Andrew Technical battling Manning’s School in the opening encounter at 4 p.m.
The other venues will be the National Stadium and St Elizabeth Technical High School, with all the matches to be decided on penalties, should the regulation 90 minutes fail to produce a winner.
Charlie Smith won seven, lost one and drew one of their 10 Manning Cup first-round matches, before getting the better of St Jago on aggregate in the second round.
They were, however, no match for defending champions Kingston College (KC) in their first match of the quarterfinals, losing 5-0.
Cornwall, on the other hand, won seven, drew two and lost one of their first-round daCosta Cup matches, before defeating Munro College on aggregate in the second round.
While they lost to Manchester in the quarterfinals, they defeated Garvey Maceo and Maggotty to advance to the semifinals, as well as the Champions Cup.
