Close one! Bermuda removes storm warning as Hurricane Epsilon moves away

Bermudans can breathe a sigh of relief as Hurricane Epsilon missed the island as it moved east of the territory last evening.

Epsilon, the tenth hurricane of the Atlantic season, dropped lost some steam, dropping from a Category 2 system to Category 1 with top sustained winds of 140 kilometres per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Officials on the island lifted the tropical storm warning as forecaster say the system would move over the Atlantic Ocean with the accompanying winds expected to go with it.

The hurricane is expected to weaken further over the weekend after Wednesday’s dramatic intensification where it became a Category 3 system in 24 hours.
