COVID-19 Watch: Monserrat reports zero active cases as Caribbean recoveries near 6,500

Monserrat has become the sixth Caribbean territory to have zero active cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as all remaining patients have recovered from the illness.

The British dependency now joins Anguilla as well as Belize, Suriname, St Lucia and Saint-Barthélemy in the elite, ‘coronavirus-free’ club of the region, with more islands looking to make the transition in the coming days.

As at 1:36 pm Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT) on Sunday, May 17, health authorities across the Caribbean have confirmed a combined total of 19,152 confirmed cases.

Some 769 patients have died from the COVID-19 infection with another 6,454 recoveries being reported regionally.
