COVID-19 Watch: More than 15,000 now infected; Caribbean states close over 4,800 cases

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to unfold in the Caribbean, and the regional statistics across all three major categories – infection, deaths, and recoveries – have risen.

As at 1:16 pm Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT) respective health departments have confirmed some 15,129 cases of COVID-19 across 31 affected countries and territories. Of that number, 4,814 cases* (or roughly 32 per cent) of those cases have had an outcome, with patients either recovering (4,135 to date) or dying from coronavirus-related complications (679 dead).

Dominican Republic: 288 new cases; 9095 confirmed. 373 patients have died. (2,064 patients have recovered)

Puerto Rico: 143 new cases; 2,156 confirmed. 107 patients have died. (*No information available on recoveries)

Guyana: No new cases; 93 confirmed. 10 patients have died. (34 recoveries)

The Bahamas: Three new cases; 92 confirmed. 11 patients have died. (26 recoveries)

Barbados: No new cases; 82 confirmed. Seven patients have died. (53 recoveries)

Cayman Islands: Two new cases; 80 confirmed. One patient has died. (35 recoveries)

Sint Maarten: No new cases; 76 confirmed. 14 patients have died. (44 recoveries)
