The semifinals of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition will be played on Wednesday at Montego Bay Sports Complex, with the remaining four teams seeking to progress to the final looking to etch their name on the trophy for this year.
The first match, scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., pits defending champions Clarendon College against underdogs McGrath High, with Cornwall College tackling Dinthill Technical in the second at 6 p.m.
Clarendon College have won the title eight times, with the first coming in 1977 when current coach Lenworth Hyde donned the colours and led an all-conquering unit.
McGrath, on the other hand, have progressed to this stage of the tournament for the first time in the school’s history. They have surprised all, by topping Zone J in the preliminary round and then advancing steadily, without much fanfare.
The second match will have two teams that have already tasted daCosta Cup success, with Cornwall winning the title 12 times and Dinthill twice.
Despite the difference in the pedigree, all four teams, having reached this stage of the competition, are not expected to go down without a fight, as they seek a date in the November 30 final.
