Sashalee Forbes advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 200 metres at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Monday (Sept 30) as she finished third in Heat One of the preliminary rounds to gain an automatic spot in the next phase.
Forbes ran 23.15 seconds to finish behind Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas who did 22.86 and Kamaria Durant of Trinidad and Tobago, who clocked 23.15.
Interestingly, Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands and Marie-Jose Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast, two of the top sprinters in the world, did not start the event
Both were involved in the 100 metres event on Sunday, which was won by Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, with Ta Lou finishing third. Schippers did not start this event either.
