Jamaica’s O’Dayne Richards has been eliminated at the preliminary stage of the men’s shot put at the 17th World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.
Richards, the Commonwealth Games champion, threw 20.07 metres, which was below the automatic qualifying mark 20.90. Richard’s effort was the 22nd overall and with only 12 moving on to the final, he was eliminated.
Thomas Walsh of New Zealand threw the farthest in the preliminary, with a distance of 21.92 metres. He threw in Group A and won ahead of the second-longest thrower on the day, Darlan Romani, of Brazil who did 21.69. Group B winner Ryan Crouser of the United States of America was the next best with 21.67.
