Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson finished second in the women’s 200 metres at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Monday as Brittany Brown of the United States of America beat her in Heat Three of the preliminary round.
Thompson, who had the quickest reaction time to the gun of 0.1688, ran 22.61 with Brown doing 22.33. The third automatic spot from the heat went to Lisa Marie Kwayie of Germany who ran 22.77.
Thompson, who is the Olympic champion, has looked sluggish since the start of the championships, only winning her preliminary round heat in the 100 metres so far. She is, however, expected to figure prominently in the final.
