Elaine Thompson-Herah blocked from Instagram for posting videos of her races

World’s fastest woman, Elaine Thompson-Herah

Elaine Thompson-Herah has been blocked from Instagram after posing videos of her semi-final 200m race at the Tokyo Olympics.

According to the world’s fastest woman, Instagram suspended her because she does not own the rights to post these races.

She shared the news of her suspension from the platform on her Twitter account.

“I was blocked on Instagram for posting the races of the Olympics because I did not own the right to do so. So see y’all in 2 days,” she tweeted.

Her tweet was immediately met with support from her followers.

“You OWNED that race though!,” one replied.

“Even Olympic champions get blocked for posting themselves running… Capitalism,” another quipped.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) prohibits businesses from creating social media posts that are Olympic-themed, feature Olympic trademarks, include games imagery, or even congratulate Olympic performance unless the business is an official sponsor. However, these restrictions do not apply to personal social media accounts (non-business related).

Under Instagram’s Terms of Use and Community Guideline, a user can only post content to Instagram that doesn’t violate someone else’s intellectual property rights.
