Three will once more be the maximum number of substitutions for English Premier League (EPL) teams come next season.
The league will revert to three after its top flight clubs decided against continuing with the two additional changes allowed in the just-concluded season.
The extra substitutions were out in place to help cope with a crowded schedule after teams were required to play more matches in a shorter period after the coronavirus pandemic forced a 100-day shutdown which ended in June. The league returned on June 17 with teams playing spectator-less stadiums in keeping with social distancing requirements.
The temporary rule was thought by some to favour larger EPL teams that had more depth in their squads.
The new season will begin on September 12.
