Father and son charged with murder of Ahmaud Arbery

Sixty-four years old Gregory McMichael, and his son 34-years-old Travis McMichael, have been arrested and charged for the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed black man.

Both father and son were detained on Thursday (May 7) by the state bureau of investigation and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Arbery was jogging in February when he was confronted and killed by the pair. At the time, both men walked free.

However, a video resurfaced which showed the father and son harassing Arbery and shooting him.

The failure to bring charges against the McMichaels, who are white, in the weeks after the shooting provoked widespread outrage.

The bureau said the father and son had confronted Mr Arbery with two firearms, and it was the younger McMichael who shot and killed him.
