Gleaner names second female chief editor

The Gleaner Company (Media) Limited has appointed Kaymar Jordan as its next editor-in-chief.

Jordan, who hails from Barbados, is the second female editor for the 185-year-old newspaper. The first was Wyvolyn Gager, who served from 1994 to 2001.

Jordan, who has more than 20 years of experience in radio, television, print and digital media journalism, will take up her appointment on November 1. She takes over for Garfield Grandison.

She announced the appointment on social media on Tuesday (Oct 15).

“Dear Fam, I’m honoured this morning to announce the latest chapter in my media journey. I’m excited to be appointed editor-in-chief of the prestigious Gleaner group in Jamaica. Looking forward to working with the team,” she wrote.

Acting general manager of The Gleaner, Garfield Grandison, said that he is confident that the new editor-in-chief will work with the existing team to strengthen the company’s print and digital offerings.
