Illegal border crossings force PM to allocate more resources to Marine Unit

Prime Minister of St Lucia Allen Chastanet earlier today (March 24) announced that more resources would be coming for the island’s marine unit attached to the Royal St Lucia Police Force.

Chastanet’s announcement comes amid news that persons have been attempting to enter St Lucia illegally from neighbouring islands.

According to the PM, the government will be allocating more financial resources to fight the threat at the borders.

“This has become necessary following reports of persons trying to enter our island illegally from neighbouring islands,” said Chastanet.

According to the PM, the marine unit will be patrolling 24 hours every day of the week especially in well-known hotspots.

St Lucia on Monday closed its airports to all incoming flights in an effort to fight the spread of the coronavirus, a similar move was taken a week ago in relation to the island’s sea ports.
