It was no contest for Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz as Barbados offered no resistance and succumbed 7-0 in their Caribbean Football Union’s Group B Olympic Games qualifier at the National Stadium Friday evening (Oct 4).
The Reggae Girlz dominated their opponents from start to finish, with Barbados scarcely entering Jamaicans half of the pitch.
Jamaica also wasted a number of good scoring opportunities, while being denied many times by goalkeeper Cadijah Mars.
Sashana Campbell opened the scoring as early as the second minute before an own-goal by Tia Brigg-Thompson in the sixth doubled their advantage.
Campbell added her second goal in the 23rd minutes, and Trudi Carter scored a quick double in the 33rd and 36th minutes. Chinyelu Asher then scored in the 70th minute. Khadijah Shaw completed the scoring one minute into second-half added time.
The victory carries Jamaica to the top of Group B with six points, the same as Cuba, who recorded a 6-0 drubbing of the United States Virgin Islands earlier.Cuba have played three matches with the Reggae Girlz playing two. Jamaica and Cuba are followed by St Lucia and Barbados who both have three points with the US Virgin Island yet to secure a point.
