Jamaica’s island-wide curfew to combat the spread of the coronavirus has been extended for another week.
The curfew, which runs from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am daily, will end on March 1. The previous measure was scheduled to expire today.
Additionally, the public gathering limit will remain at 10 people until February 28. Previously, the daily curfew began at 10:00 pm while the public gathering limit was 15 people.
In making the announcement, “Only through this concerted effort to control the spread of the virus will we be able to maintain a level of productivity to secure lives and livelihoods and recover more quickly from this crisis.”
Jamaica has been experiencing a spike of cases over the past two weeks, which has seen its infection surpass 22,000 while related deaths have topped 400.
