Jamaica records 12 COVID deaths, 695 cases

Jamaica recorded 12 coronavirus deaths over the past 24 hours, its highest daily fatality count yet.

The country also recorded an additional 695 coronavirus cases – from 2,653 tests – pushing the total to 28,968.

The ages of the deceased range from 33 to 87 years old. Four are from St James addresses, four from St Elizabeth and one each from Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, St Ann and Westmoreland.

Among the latest infections are 409 females and 286 males with ages ranging from four days to 91 years.

Jamaica also saw an additional 137 recoveries, for a total of 14,781, while active cases climbed to 13,479.

Hospitalisations have also hit a new high with 310 patients, 25 of which are moderately ill while 31 are critically ill.

The country started its inoculation programme yesterday with about 3,000 people expected to get their first jab of the two-shot AstraZeneca vaccine.
