Special Olympics Jamaica’s (SOJ) participation in the 2021 Olympic Games in Sweden has been enhanced by the contribution of J$12m by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The fund will be used to prepare the athletes for the quadrennial event and the agreement between SOJ and UNICEF was signed last week.
The athletes are already in training, as Jamaica seeks to participate in events such as roller skating, ice dancing and the recently introduced floorball.
Meanwhile, the SOJ unified competition will be held on November 23 with competitors vying for top positions in basketball, volleyball and bocce. There will also be health screening for athletes.
Individuals with intellectual disabilities play along with those without in the unified teams.
