Jamaica’s active COVID cases surpass recoveries with 602 new infections

Jamaica’s active cases of the coronavirus have surpassed recoveries after the island recorded 602 more infections over the past day.

Cases of the virus have increased to 31,907 with 15,807 being active. There have been 15,371 recoveries so far, including 118 declared yesterday.

Among the new positives are 334 females and 249 males with ages ranging from one to 98 years. The infection results were returned from 2,364 tests, putting the island’s positivity rate at 31.6 per cent.

Additionally, there were two more virus-related deaths, taking the total to 494. The deceased are an 86-year-old female from Kingston and St Andrew and an 82-year-old male from St Mary.

Hospitalisations now stand at 354 with 31 patients being moderately ill and 27 listed as critically ill.
