Jamaica’s has over 17,000 active COVID cases; 638 new infections

There are over 17,000 active coronavirus cases in Jamaica after 638 new infections were reported over the past 24 hours.

The latest positives push the island’s total to 33,366 while active cases increase to 17,004.

The new cases include 357 females and 281 males with ages ranging from six months to 96 years. The results were received from 2,256 tests which out the nation’s positivity rate at 37.2 per cent.

The health ministry reported a further 142 recoveries, for a total of 15,615.

Four additional deaths related to the virus were also reported, for a total of 511.

The deceased are a 52-year-old female from St James while the others, a 74-year-old male; 68-year-old female and 95-year-old female; all have St Elizabeth addresses.

Hospitalisations are now at 398, with 34 patients deemed to be critically ill while 28 are moderately ill.
