October 10 is recogmised annually as World Homeless Day. Those among us who regrettably do not have a place to call home are often left to the harsh cruelties of the elements.
They sometimes suffer abuse and attacks from members of the society who view them as threats.
Recently, however, the Poor Relief Department and the National Council on Drug Abuse in Jamaica partnered to create facilities for the homeless and bring some well-needed support.
The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) with its partners hosted a World Homeless Day health fair on October 11, at the Poor Relief Department, in Kingston. They provided health checks and the distribution of clothing and care packages for the homeless within the country’s corporate area.
