JC, George’s in desperate bid to stay alive in Manning Cup

Jamaica College (JC) and St George’s College must win their respective matches on Tuesday to give themselves a chance of continuing in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup journey, as one will be eliminated at the quarterfinals stage.

Jamaica College (JC) and McGrath High School had an intense match that saw JC walking away as the winners.

It will be the first time in more than a decade that both teams will not make it to the semifinals. However, with two teams advancing and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) already having one of those spots from Group H, both are fighting for the other place.

Interestingly, the other team in the group, Excelsior, can also progress. STATHS are on six points, with JC second on two and both St George’s and Excelsior on one point. St George’s lead Excelsior on goal difference.

JC will play STATHS and just need to victory to advance. They can advance with a draw, but St George’s and Excelsior would also have to draw their clash.

For either St George’s or Excelsior to advance, they will have to beat the other and hope that STATHS defeat JC.

Group G is also fairly interesting, with three of the four teams still fighting for the two spots to advance.

Defending champions Kingston College (KC) lead on goal difference over Wolmer’s Boys’ School as both are on four points. Camperdown are third on three points with Charlie Smith, who are out of contention, without a point.

Both KC and Wolmer’s will advance with a draw. Camperdown will have to defeat KC to progress, in which depending on the result of other match, could eliminate the defending champions.
