Jamaican nurse, who was first to get COVID-19 vaccine in US, receives second shot

Sandra Lindsay, the Jamaican-born nurse who was the first person to get the coronavirus vaccine in the US, received her second dose yesterday.

Lindsay received the first of the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which has a 95 per cent efficacy rate, on December 14.

The 52-year-old is an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, New York.

Upon getting her follow-up jab, she said, “It feels like I’ve completed the cycle, closed the loop, so to speak, by receiving the second dose.”

She added, “The last 21 days has been quite busy educating, inspiring, encouraging people to trust the science, get informed and get vaccinated.

“I had no idea I was going to be the first in New York State, the first in the country, and that it would generate all this attention.”
