Defending champions Kingston College (KC) defeated Charlie Smith while Jamaica College (JC) and St George’s College drew in the quarterfinals of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup football competition on Thursday at the National Stadium.
In the first match, KC were in sparkling form as they blew away Charlie Smith 5-0, to move to the top of Group A of the quarterfinals ahead of Wolmer’s Boy’s School on goal difference. Wolmer’s had defeated Camperdown 3-2 on Wednesday.
KC opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Dwayne Atkinson, with Ronaldo Robinson increasing the lead in the 39th, as Atkinson scored his second three minutes later to give KC a 3-0 lead going into the halftime break. Tyrese Williams placed his name on the score sheet in the 55th minute, with midfielder Demario McCarthy completing the defeat in the 77th minute.
The second match between JC and St George’s ended 1-1. JC took the lead through former Wolmer’s player Nickache Murray after one hour. St George’s stormed back in the last 10 minutes before equalising through Chantamoi Taylor two minutes into second-half added time.
St Andrew Technical High lead Group B after their 4-0 victory over Excelsior on Wednesday to be on three points. They are followed by JC and St George’s with one point each.
