Martinique reimposes curfew as island declares health crisis

Martinique has reimposed a daily curfew following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.

In addition, French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday (June 13) declared that the island was in a health emergency.

According to local media, the island recorded 1,000 new COVID-19 infections over a one week period.

The surge in cases means that areas such as Stanislas Cazelles have reintroduced a curfew from 9 p.m to 5 a.m

Authorities say the duration of the new curfew measures are expected to last for one month but could be extended if necessary.
